These therapies are proven to be useful interventions for people who are attempting to discontinue drug-use or are seeking support to remain drug-free.
Shiatsu means ‘finger pressure’ in Japanese, and is a physical therapy in which hands, elbows and knees are employed in a massage technique aimed at bringing about a rebalancing of the body’s energy (or ‘Qi’), with the result that the client can feel a powerful sense of well-being and relaxation. Each session lasts around 45 minutes and the client remains fully clothed throughout.
Auricular or Ear Acupuncture is a branch of Chinese medicine. It involves inserting tiny needles into five points on each ear. This helps rid the body of toxins and has proved extremely helpful for people who are experiencing withdrawal from habitual drug or alcohol use. While a one-off treatment can be useful, the best results are achieved through regular sessions.
Homeopathy is a complete system of alternative medicine that is entirely natural and can be safely applied to any health problem. The non-toxic remedies work by stimulating the body to heal itself. It has been shown to help alleviate problems associated with colds, depression, insomnia, skin-complaints, headaches, allergies, drug and alcohol withdrawal effects.
Clients can access services by attending the Hungerford’s drop-in Monday to Friday 2-5pm or by telephoning the Hungerford.
