Communities & Young People Team

The Hungerford has been at the forefront of young people’s substance misuse service provision since 1985. Over the last 17 years the project has successfully pioneered a variety of models and interventions that respond to the specific needs of vulnerable young people.

Our current team comprises 7 full time specialist workers providing dedicated young peoples substance misuse services within Westminster Youth Offending Team, social services children & families, schools, colleges, youth services, BME services, excluded provision and a range of early intervention initiatives.

The Hungerford has been providing a comprehensive drugs education in schools and youth groups for over fifteen years, aimed at empowering young people to make factual, healthy and well informed decisions.

What is on offer?

• Drug education lessons consistent with the National Curriculum

• Drugs policy development to enable an appropriate response

• Training for teachers, youth workers and other professionals

• Lunchtime satellites with information technology and games
  
  
• Satellites in parents’ evenings and training sessions for Parents
  Teacher Associations and staff teams

We also offer a 48-hour callout service to schools which responds swiftly to drug related incidents, providing full one-to-one assessment with the pupil(s) concerned by a dedicated youth worker, who can offer accurate information, structured intervention and counselling.

The vulnerable young persons service is a free service providing information, support, counselling and group work to young people who are experiencing problems with drugs. The service accepts referrals from Westminster’s: Youth Offending Teams / Social Services Family and Adolescent Services / Looked-after Children’s Teams / Schools / Youth Services.
