| Course Summary: This specialist course is aimed at agencies which house or
provide support services to people applying for refugee
status or seeking asylum in the UK. The course explores
the extent to which substance use is an issue for refugees
and asylum seekers. It looks at the nature and extent of
drug-use in countries of departure, and the risk factors
that can contribute to drug-use upon arrival in the UK.
The course explores some of the main drugs of concern, looks at social and cultural issues and maps strategies for education and interventions that are accessible when working with diverse cultures. This course is aimed at providers of housing and support services for people who are seeking asylum, especially those providing housing under the dispersal programme. A basic level of drugs awareness would be useful for participantsLearning Objectives:
