Course: Drugs & Premises

Course Date:
Course Length:
22/09/2004
1 Day Course
Course Summary:

This course looks at drugs, drug legislation and drugs work from a worker or an organisational perspective rather than a client perspective. The aim is to ensure that workers are clear about their own legal responsibilities in relation to drug-use on premises, during visits and in street settings.

This course is aimed at any workers encountering drug-use in residential or non-residential settings, street and outreach venues. This course assumes some familiarity with common substances and workers will need to have undertaken some basic drugs training. This module is tailored to frontline workers and focuses more on practical aspects of the work rather than policy development.

Learning Objectives:
  • Be aware of their legal obligations under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971, when encountering drug-related incidents on premises.
  • Be aware of civil-law obligations in working with drug users
  • Increase confidence in dealing with drug situations
  • Be able to balance legal, policy and practical pressures in responding to situations
