Course Summary: This course is for generic workers with a basic understanding of drug use and the substance misuse field who would like to develop their understanding and skills further. The course will provide participants with an opportunity to understand recent developments in the drugs field, develop skills in their professional practice and increase their knowledge of the different drug treatment options available and how to access them. This course is aimed at all professionals / volunteers working within the social care field who would like to develop their understanding and skills of the substance misuse field. The course will be of benefit for people who have already undertaken some basic drug awareness or as a refresher course for those wishing to understand recent drug trends & new development in the drugs field. Learning Objectives: Street drugs update & recent trends Working with injecting drug users To understand the range of treatment options provided by drug services Increase skills in making effective referrals to drug treatment Implementing strategies for reducing harm To explore how we work with hard-to-engage clients Responding to drug-related incidents
