Course Summary:

This course is targeted at professionals working directly with young people who want to develop their skills and abilities in proving effective substance misuse interventions. The course will enable participants to explore a range of interventions, such as education, advice and treatment services, and develop a number of good practice models to take back to their workplaces.

The course will be of particular benefit for people who work in young people’s services such as Connexions, youth services, education, employment and excluded pupils’ provision. Some basic drug awareness training /experience will be beneficial for those wanting to attend this course.

Learning Objectives:
  • To explore and be able to identify risk factors, health implications and other associated problems
  • To understand prevention, support services and appropriate treatment options for young people
  • To develop an effective drug education programme on the day
  • To explore how to respond to drug-related incidents
  • To develop effective inter-agency collaboration when working with young people
